Sarasota, FL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is my first time ever in The Everglades. \u00a0I&#8217;ve been farther south because I&#8217;ve been all the way to Key West but have never been in The Everglades before. \u00a0It&#8217;s not summer yet but it&#8217;s pretty dang warm and humid already. \u00a0Not what I&#8217;d call oppressive but certainly not comfortable either. \u00a0At least the rains haven&#8217;t started yet, I should be long gone.<\/p>\n<p>I came here to fish and I went on two different charters. \u00a0The first day we were going out to a wreck where we should have to been able to catch a variety of fish. \u00a0We picked up some shrimp and Captain Billy tossed a 12 foot casting net to pick up the rest of the baitfish.<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redrideraz.com\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/12-foot-net.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-378\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redrideraz.com\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/12-foot-net.jpg?resize=584%2C259&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redrideraz.com\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/12-foot-net.jpg?resize=1024%2C454&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redrideraz.com\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/12-foot-net.jpg?resize=300%2C133&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redrideraz.com\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/12-foot-net.jpg?resize=768%2C341&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redrideraz.com\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/12-foot-net.jpg?resize=1536%2C681&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redrideraz.com\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/12-foot-net.jpg?resize=500%2C222&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redrideraz.com\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/12-foot-net.jpg?w=2048&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redrideraz.com\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/12-foot-net.jpg?w=1168&amp;ssl=1 1168w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redrideraz.com\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/12-foot-net.jpg?w=1752&amp;ssl=1 1752w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We tried hard to get out to the wreck but it was just too rough. \u00a0We stopped at a couple other spots, but the wind was blowing hard enough that the trolling motor couldn&#8217;t hold us on the structure and standing up in the boat was more than a little dicy.<\/p>\n<p>Back inside the Ten Thousand Island area we had much better luck. \u00a0We caught snook, mangrove snapper, jack crevalle, catfish and trout. \u00a0Captain Billy filleted the mangrove snapper and I took advantage of the little kitchen back at the condo. \u00a0Very good delicate whitefish.<\/p>\n<p>The following day I went out with a guide that&#8217;s a 6th generation Everglades City resident. \u00a0He&#8217;s more interested in flight instruction these days building his hours for a shot at an airline pilot&#8217;s job &#8211; we&#8217;ll talk.<\/p>\n<p>Another bucket list fish for me is Peacock Bass. \u00a0These are very aggressive fish and to catch a big one you have to travel. \u00a0Brazil, Colombia or Venezuela are your best bets for something in the 30 pound range. \u00a0However &#8211; they are a wary fish and if you&#8217;re aren&#8217;t wearing fishing camouflage they&#8217;ll see you way before you ever see them. \u00a0Okay &#8211; that&#8217;s a bit of a stretch, my fish camo is just belt and suspenders in the sunscreen department. \u00a0Captain Miles knew exactly where to go, and we were able to sight fish for Peacocks. \u00a0Trying to catch a fish that you can see is pretty exciting. \u00a0I caught several of these hard fighting fish, I&#8217;d still like to catch something 20 TIMES larger &#8211; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On our way back I saw this huge catamaran. \u00a0I did a search and found that there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/lHiqALRD5IY\">video<\/a> \u00a0showing you around this 62 foot boat. \u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/lHiqALRD5IY\">video<\/a> is cool but they never tell you the price. \u00a0The other thing that I liked is the name of the fishing boat parked in front of the Meglodon. \u00a0Bottom Scratcher. \u00a0I doubt that it&#8217;s an original name, but it&#8217;s the first one I&#8217;ve seen &#8211;
